When I was in the 3rd grade, I was still very silly and sissy. But she was always patient when I cried and did silly things that caused problems not only to me but also to her. Then when I was 4th grade, I had to deal with a brand new homeroom teacher. I didn’t know anything about her. In my first month in grade 4, I felt so uncomfortable. When I said “Hello” to my homeroom teacher, she didn’t reply to me. That and other things made me not like her. I told all of this to Ma’am Diyah. And even though I knew she was busy, I knew she would still want to help me. Indeed, after telling her this problem, she had a word with my 4th-grade teacher and told her about my thoughts. And after this, the teacher started to treat me better.
If I had problems at home and I called her at night (even at bedtime) she still wanted to answer and calm me down. Then when I had a problem in class (gym class) with my teacher and friends, I went to her class while she was teaching. Oh, why … why … did I do this embarrassing thing!
But somehow I was not embarrassed. Maybe the students in her class thought “Why is this senior disturbing our class?” I cried that day and her students looked at me weirdly. But she still wanted to talk to me. She took me to my homeroom teacher and left her students to come and help me.
I am very blessed and thankful that God gave me a teacher that cares for me and can understand me the way I am now. Thank you for listening to my story. Hope you have a good day. God bless you.
Next day, I met her at school and congratulated her, hugging her tall body that had now surpassed even my own height. Her face turned red, blushing with pride in herself. I couldn’t believe my eyes, she won the competition! That was very unexpected – actually not because of her victory, because she often won English competitions – my surprise came more from the selection of her theme.
Wow … God, is this one of the rewards as a teacher? Is this what is meant by touching a student’s heart?
As a busy teacher, I’ve forgotten lots of things that Stephie did, I just tried to be a good friend for Stephie. But as it turned out, she still remembers me and she still invites me to be a friend in her life.
As this story shows, I believe that I have had an impact on my students, and somehow touched their lives. It was beyond expectations to hear such stories from my students, but I will always remember those who motivated me to touch the hearts of the students I have taught. Thank you God for entrusting such extraordinary students to me.
